Hi...I just wanted to point out some things in Edward's defense. Bella moved out of her apartment and Edward had no other way of reaching her. He had no way to know where she was or what she was doing. For all he knew she may have gone back to her old lifestyle, he really had no other reason to think otherwise. She did everything in her power to push him away and she did not even attempt to contact him after her "apology" at his office that day. Yes, she was in a terrible place emotionally at first but what about after she got it together a little bit and had been in therapy for a while? Edward is a saint for all he has put up with from her and when she left he was not only dealing with his own emotional instability and losing Bella, but a newborn baby with medical issues. He offered to help Bella in any way he could and only requested she get help and not drink/do drugs. She was the one to stop communication. I don't think there was any reason left for him to go tracking her down. They both made mistakes but I don't think Edward should take the blame for the separation. That's just my pov though! Hi,
I don't want to be argumentative, really, and I promise that I won't keep beating this point to death. I just want to address a couple of the things you said.
I don't think that it was completely Edward's fault; I just don't think it was all Bella's either.
1) Bella didn't move until her lease was up - 1 year later.
2) You're right, he didn't know what was going on with her, but he could have if he had just asked.
3) I know it was a hard time for him, too, with missing Bella and dealing with Grace and her needs, but...he did all of those things with the support, love, and respect of a big family and some friends. He was his own boss, could be flexible, had no monetary problems, and had an abundance of love and assistance. Bella had no one to rely on for even the littlest things, no comfort, financial issues which caused her to be reliant upon her job and their whims.
4) She was doing what he asked by not drinking and getting help, but it's my opinion that the way he dealt with the situation left her feeling afraid to contact him for fear of rejection. I'm not saying that she was right, just that I understand her reticence and fear. I just think that he was in a much better place and should have continued to be the better person and meet her more than halfway. He was so much more equipped to handle all of these things than she was. Even after she had been in therapy a little while, he was still so much more prepared to handle everything.
5) When you love someone, fairness and "shoulds" aren't the most important thing. Sacrifice is. He had already sacrificed for her and for Grace, I just think he should have gone a little farther.
I absolutely love this Edward and I'm afraid it seems like I don't and I'm being too critical of him. I guess I just feel so tenderly toward Bella and don't want her to have to have been alone to work out all of her problems. I absolutely agree that he has been wonderful and she has been horrible. But, she has been alone so very long. If he didn't love her, and they had no relationship, I would have no problem with him at all if he just didn't think that she was worth all of the heartache. But, he did come to love her - he told her repeatedly that he loved her - and to me that changes things.
Anyway, I am so glad for chapter 60! I love them both (and Grace) and I am rooting for a happy ending!
Thanks for listening... I don't think you're being argumentative at all! It's fun to discuss and debate with others and this story certainly brings out our emotions and leaves us wanting to defend these beloved characters. I completely understand what your saying about Bella not being in a good place emotionally and maybe I misspoke before. I don't think Bella should have been expected to contact Edward during her 'recovery'. I just don't think Edward should have either. Edward did have a strong support system around him helping with Grace, however Bella could have had that same support system. Edward tried repeatedly to be that for her, and due to her own issues she pushed him away. Regardless of how strong a person is I think there is only so much you can take until it's just not healthy anymore. Those last few times he saw her and she said the most hateful things possible and treated him as if he was no one and meant no more to her than some faceless John, I think that was his breaking point. After everything he had been through with Tanya and Bella I think he just went into protective mode and didn't want to get hurt anymore. I'm sure he was scared to contact her for the same reasons she was afraid to contact him. He didn't want to know if she went back to her old lifestyle and worse didn't want to see him. As crappy as the whole situation was I think it was necessary. I think Bella needed that time to grow up and prove to herself that she could make it on her own without resorting to old habits and without Edward there holding her hand. I'm just glad they are headed in the right direction now. They both deserve to finally have some happiness. Hopefully they won't have to face too much criticism from his family. I think Carlisle and Esme will be fine, but I'm not so sure about Alice I'm sure Edward won't hesitate to put her in her place though! Thanks for chatting with me and sharing your thoughts....

Thank you for writing this amazing story! I want to especially thank you for posting these last three chapters back to back. It really does help relieve some of the angst I feel! I am enamored with your beautiful tale and just simply cannot get enough.
I love Edward crazy mad!!! I want one like that! I love that Bella is coming around and has found her own way. She is coming into her own and dealing with her issues in a very mature way. I LOVE that she called Angela out!! There are just so many things I love about your story - these are but a few.

First, I love this fic to death. Second, the author is so wonderful - her dedication and discipline to it should be noted by all fic authors - she is a great example of what other authors should be. HOw many just abandon their stories? Or post one page every six months? Dani is wonderful. OK = I have to agree with you about Edward. He has been so wonderful up until this past year. You are right - Bella had NO ONE!!! She did this all on her own because that is the only way Edward would take her back. But, I think he asked too much of her. Jeez. Who could have done what Bella did? She deserves a medal here. He should BEG to have her back in his life. She did it all without love, without support, warmth, guidance, friendship. For Grace, For Edward. Yes, she made mistakes before, but who hasn't? AND her mistakes certainly didn't bother Edward before. He begged her to move in. And what is Alice so pissed off about? Screw her!!!! For this past year, Edward knew where Bella lived. He could have visited. He couldl have helped her. HE SHOULD BE IN FAMILY COUNSELING WITH HER!!!!!! Why isn't he? ? He should meet once or twice a month with Bella and her counselor!!!! At least! Most families do this together. He needs to start acting like a partner, a husband, a lover and stop being so mean to her. She is trying. She feels so guilty that Grace is deaf because of her. He should understand this. Why haven't they discussed this together with her psychiatrist? IT should be out on the table - this was the cuase of her relapses!!!!! OR does he really not want her to be a good mother? Did he really want her to fail again? If so why? ?? He should have been offering her love and suppot this past year. Hopefully he has realized he has been wrong, but he needs a professional to tell hiim this - NOT JASPER either! Jasper is familiy. Edward should have fired Angela a LONG time ago. He had no right to so easily replace Bella with another cute, young girl. That was WRONG. Glad she is finally gone. YOu have to respect your partner's insecurities sometimes. Of course Bella would be resentful and jealous of Angela. Edward didn't even care. He SHOULD have!!!! Glad at least he fired Newton too. That would have been a huge disaster for Bella. Maybe Edward is coming around. finally. Chap 60 seems to be headed in that direction. I hope so. Edward owes Bella - she gave him Grace. He owes her love, support, guidance. Three things he withheld from her for ONE YEAR!!! ALL becuase she felt guilty she caused Grace's deafness. Give me a break. Almost unforgivable. Bella is a saint right now. I love her. chap 60 gives me hope. Bella has started some online classes. She should get another job, higher paying job but only part time, and spend more time with Grace. Hell, she should MOVE back home and send Esme away and do her schooling online when she has time. there is no rush now to graduate college - she could take years to do that. MOVE BACK HOME BELLA. YOU DESERVE IT.

Misscherrie -
It has been fun discussing this with you. I wrote in another post that this forum was kind of like book club...it makes the story even better when we can discuss it and the characters and motivations.
I don't think I had ever really thought that Edward might have been scared to talk to her as well. That is an excellent point! I think you're right...she had treated him so callously, just like a "faceless John", and he loved her so much, that he probably was afraid to talk to her and find out that she had fallen into her former lifestyle and her love for him hadn't been real. I guess I was thinking that he was just trying to teach her a lesson and was holding back for principle's sake, not that he was afraid, too.
I do see what you're saying about her having support too, if she had wanted it. I'm not sure that I agree completely. They only ever supported her to a point and were always looking for her to mess up. I do also hope that his family will trust him and not interfere too much. I have very little hope where Alice is concerned! He lets her get away with a lot!
Thanks for your insight. It's been fun!

Just plain awesome story! I am so moved by this hard won growth and maturity in Bella. The tough love stand that Edward had to make must of been so hard for him, but needed. I will be pondering over this story until your next update.

So good! I'm so glad that you were able to bring them back together and in a totally realistic manner...no rushing...not caving. Just them improving themselves and her working hard to get her life back. Loved it!

You are so good. I was really hating Edward for a minute. There is still a lot of trust they need to build. Will you do some of this from Edward's pov? How long was Bella "gone" and not communicating with Edward? She is right that she will never be completely ok, but it amazed me that he would call her Tanya. I think there's a lot you could tell us about what he went thru?? Will she tell her doc, sorry but dryhumping, yeah that's sex--and wow that was hot!

They both have a part in the failure of their previous relationship. The crux being Bella had to want to make it on her own. Edward could have been there. And where would that have lead? I think that Bella putting on her "Big Girl Panties" and dealing with her issues on her own is the best way. She can claim her own progress and happiness. I am thrilled that they are making deep inroads into their relationship. I can see them @ a good place.
Edward going back to work full time so that Esme can care for Grace full-time is a stroke of genious. I can only imagine how that makes Esme feel.
What is the designation of "Dirty shoes" all about?
